About Us

The National Sustainable Building Advisor Program (NaSBAP) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization incorporated in Washington State. NaSBAP oversees the Sustainable Building Advisor (SBA) course, which is administered through course providers across the US and in Canada. The purpose of this unique and comprehensive sustainable building course is to give practicing professionals the tools they need to make our built environment more sustainable.

In the fall of 2007, the course was offered in 11 locations nationwide. Since 1999, over 500 students have graduated from the course and more than 200 have passed the professional exam to make the list of CSBAs.

The nationally-based board of directors and peer group of experts provide annual reviews of the course material and exam content to maintain applicability and timeliness.

History

NaSBAP is a natural outgrowth of a successful program offered to working professionals by Seattle City Light and Seattle Central Community College starting in 1999. In 2004, in response to requests for a similar training nationwide, comprehensive training materials were developed that can be customized for use at other locations. In 2005, NaSBAP incorporated as a non-profit in WA State and, in 2007, NaSBAP became a federal 501(c)3.

In 2008, NaSBAP became an approved US Green Building Council (USGBC) Education Provider and also partnered with the Cascadia Sustainability Academy, offered by the Cascadia Region Green Building Council.
